2008 was a busy year at the Ranch

We’re always looking for a variety of ways, both big and small, to improve our guests’ stay. Some might be small, like adding bird hunting coverts, others might be mid-sized like adding activities. And the rest might be of a large scale, as in additional properties. In 2008 we did all the above, and are anxious to showcase them to you sometime in 2009.
aNew Fishery, the K-T
It’s no secret that fishing runs in our blood, and we acquired the historic K-T (K Bar T) Ranch in Meeker to add diversity for our anglers. The White River runs through the property, and we now offer 3 miles of fly-fishing on this legendary river for brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout. If you’re up for the challenge, and what fly rodder isn’t, the K-T also has three crystal clear spring creeks that will test your casting and fish fighting skills. The browns and rainbows aren’t small, mind you, and in the course of the year they don’t see many flies. We are proud to offer an expanded trout fishing trip that serves as a true, Western sampler. Come to the ranch for a 6-night/5-day visit and sight fish for a few days on our spring creek ponds, then move on to the White River and the spring creeks, and round out your trip with a drift boat fish on the Roaring Fork or the Colorado Rivers. Overnight accommodations and gourmet meals are at both ranches, all designed for your convenience.
New Gift Shoppinga
We’ve also redesigned and named our Pro Shop. The Lonesome Outfitter is chock-a-block with a full assortment of fishing and hunting products, gifts, and apparel. You’ll find your friend, Robin Weaver, our Guest Services Manager, in her new digs, adjacent to the Lonesome Outfitter where you can check in, gather your gear, and enjoy your day’s activities. Our collection of wearable gear is as high in quality as any experience at the Ranch. Choose from a large selection of shirts, vests, fleece jackets, sweatshirts, and more – all proudly embroidered with a small High Lonesome logo. Recall your own Ranch experience when you wear yours, or make the gift a memento of a trip for a friend or loved one. Better still – give the gift wrapped as a hint of a trip to come.

aNew Gift Certificates
This holiday, give the gift of an unforgettable experience. A High Lonesome Ranch Gift Certificate will make “Exactly as wild as you want” a reality for your special someone. The deluxe accommodations and delicious meals are just starters. With the size and scope of the ranch, activities are endless. For details, call 970.283.9420 or email info@TheHighLonesomeRanch.com.
Expanded Cast and Blast and New Kennels
The new property also gives us the opportunity to expand our cast and blast program, by fishing High Lonesome’s stillwater and the K-T’s moving water...all in between hunting our coverts. We’ve recently built a new 40-dog kennel, and added several Elhew pointers to our pointing labs.
New Non-Sporting Activitiesa
But wait, there’s more. We’ve added a tremendous number of non-sporting activities for anyone in your family or company that doesn’t particularly want to fish or hunt – such as horseback riding by the day or as a package. And guided mountain biking and hiking for those who prefer a different activity. Or head to the links for 18-holes of golf. There are also tours of local Grand Junction wineries, whitewater rafting trips, day spa trips, wildlife viewing and cooking classes. To take advantage of our new programs you just need to come with plenty of time.
aNew Build-outs
Among the most important build outs we’ve done is a guest room/bathroom reconfiguration in both the Guest House as well as the Pond House. In 2009 you’ll find four guest rooms, complete with private bathrooms in the Guest House, and three guest rooms and private bathrooms in the Pond House!
We renovated parts of the Guest House as well by updating the living room, the game room and by adding a fireplace. New couches and furniture rounded out our updates. With so many requests for family reunions, weddings, and corporate events, our renovations will continue in 2009 and beyond.
New Conservation Efforts
As many of you know, Kimball Creek runs through our property, and we’ve been working to restore the native cutthroat population in a collaborative effort with our friends at Trout Unlimited. A tremendous amount of work is involved in the project, and we have been hard at work on our planning efforts. We’ll keep you updated on our conservation practices throughout the year.
New Website and Easier Booking Procedures
We’ve also made it easier to book with us. Now you can use your credit card to make a reservation or to purchase High Lonesome products on line. You can see it showcased on our new website, loaded with images to remind you of your stay, or to show you what to expect on a future trip. Can’t figure out what to get someone for a gift? How about a High Lonesome Ranch Gift Certificate? Check out our products on our website, too. http://www.thehighlonesomeranch.com.
New Magazine Featuresa
In 2008, High Lonesome has been featured in a number of national publications.  There were articles written about us in Destination Fish, a lodge review in Fly Rod and Reel, a photo essay also in Fly Rod and Reel, a wing shooting piece in the Bird Hunting Report.  And we were highlighted as a Fantastic Getaway – one of 9 Luxury Fishing and Hunting resorts – in Traveling Sportsman. You can read them all on our website. http://www.thehighlonesomeranch.com/the-ranch/news/
Look for future eNewsletters to continue our updates, as we’ve barely scratched the surface.  Nothing gives us greater satisfaction than entertaining guests at The High Lonesome Ranch.  It’s what we love to do, and we hope to see you on the trails very soon.
Happy Holidays!
