World Class Water &
Five Star Cuisine at the Ranch

The High Lonesome Ranch Adds the
K – T Ranch’s World-Class Water for Wading
If you’ve fished at the ranch you already know the fantastic fishery we have. We’re continually improving it, so it only gets better every time you come. Large, robust rainbows, browns, brooks and cutts can turn an ordinary day of fishing into an epic outing. With fish up to 14 pounds swimming in our waters, we can practically guarantee you’ll see the largest fish of your life. If you do everything just right (and listen to your guide!) you’ll probably land one as well.
Yet for some anglers, the joys of wading a freestone stream are the very epitome of what fly-fishing is all about. With that in mind, we’ve acquired one of the most desirable pieces of water in the west – the legendary K – T Ranch near Meeker, Colorado, on the White River. Just over an hour from High Lonesome, K – T has more than a mile of beautiful riffle/run water with the added bonus of two spring creeks. Along with three miles of leased water nearby, all the water is easily waded and will give you the challenge of casting to wild browns, rainbows and cutthroats. Want to see more on this great addition to the High Lonesome experience or book a trip? Don’t miss it! We also offer float trips on the nearby Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers, and special small river wading excursions on the Crystal River.

Renowned Chef Doug Atkinson Joins Aunt Linda at the Ranch
Our new chef, Doug Atkinson, brings 20 years of culinary experience to High Lonesome this spring along with his signature style.
Chef Atkinson has cooked with many of Texas’ most renowned chefs. Doug served as James Beard Award winner Stephan Pyles’ Executive Sous Chef at the famous Star Canyon restaurants in both Dallas, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada. He has worked along side Bruce Molzan and Herve Glin, as well as other James Beard Award winners Robert Del Grande and Robert McGrath, all of whom are recognized as having introduced the world to Southwestern Cuisine.
At the 2004 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo International Food and Wine Competition, Chef Doug Atkinson was awarded the prize of Grand Champion – Best Bites. From a field of hundreds of Houston Chefs, Doug was chosen as the most outstanding participant in that year’s inaugural event. Doug’s “Lone Star Cuisine” impressed the eyes and palates of every cowboy and food lover in attendance. His creations use ingredients from the southern region of the United States and Mexico with a strong influence on local products. His signature dishes, such as Barbecued Sea Scallops with Green Chile Broth and Creamy Grits, showcase Chef Atkinson’s talent for layering and balancing a spectrum of flavors. The end result is truly a culinary journey.
Numerous publications, including Texas Monthly magazine, Chile Pepper magazine, Inside Houston, Texas Food Lover Magazine, Cowboys and Indians, and The Houston Chronicle, have featured articles on Doug’s restaurants and recipes. During the Houston Texans’ inaugural season, Doug was a participating chef in the H.E.B. Central Market Chef’s Connection series. He regularly taught classes at the Central Market in Houston, promoting his culinary heritage to sell-out classes. While preparing memorable dishes, he always inspired his students to use regional products and ideals with their everyday cooking.
His migration to Colorado is an exciting coup for The High Lonesome Ranch gourmet team. Using fresh, local ingredients from the rich Colorado valley, Doug will focus on seasonal dishes including Wood-Fired Cowboy Cut Rib Eye with Red Chile Steak Butter or Oak Roasted Pheasant Breast with Habanero-Peach Chutney. It makes your mouth water just reading this stuff! For all our long-time fans of Aunt Linda’s Louisiana-inspired southern cooking, don’t worry. Aunt Linda will still be around the kitchen, whipping up her blueberry pancakes and spending more time baking her scrumptious muffins, breads, and pies. There goes your waistline!
