The Ranch
While you're here,
you own the place.
When the sun rises above the Bookcliff Mountains its beams first touch the rocky promontories that encompass the 300 square miles of the High Lonesome Ranch. As time passes, the purple, blue and orange hues work their way down the slope. At first blush, the colors illuminate thousands of acres of pine forests. In a while they will touch the grassy plateaus where herds of 7x6 and 7x7 elk graze. Gradually, the colors work their way down valley and light up the hundreds of spring creek ponds. When the sun warms the water, the mayfly hatches begin and the trout start to rise. These are not ordinary trout, but brookies, browns, and rainbows, fish that make dreams, and are well within casting range. By the time the sun reaches the fields it reveals B&C mule deer sneaking through the fields in search of water and a morning meal. No one bothers them except for maybe the territorial gamebirds. The pheasant, Chuckar partridge, and Hungarian partridge don’t like getting crowded by the mule deer.
Take it all in up close or from a distance. You can squint at them through a riflescope, over the rib of a double-barreled shotgun, or through polarized sunglasses. If you prefer, you can see them up close and personal from horseback during an early ride, or you can watch them through the steam of a piping hot cup of coffee from your deck. The choices are yours and they are endless.
Preserving the wilderness.
Conservation is the name of the game at the High Lonesome Ranch. Mother Nature did her part. She started with an 8000-foot mountain range and placed a magnificently lush valley a few thousand feet below. Our involvement is simple; we protect and augment the land we feel privileged to own. We are serious in our endeavors, and create food plots for game, replant grasses and create barriers to safeguard against spring run-off, and maintain open space. We’re temporary stewards of the land, and we make the most of our time. Our resource-management team is among the best in the business, with a total of nearly 1,000 years of land management experience combined with state-of-the-art machinery and techniques. When those don’t work we draw on that millennium of experience and do it the Old Fashioned Way. A little bit of inspiration and a whole lot of perspiration.
