Cast & Blast

A cool, crisp morning with mountain tops still shrouded in mist and a fine dog anxious to get out in the field make great reasons to get up and out early. We’re the largest ranch in Western Colorado with 400+ square miles of grand ruggedness and tons of acres of well-established coverts on terrain that’s easy to navigate in our North Dry Fork Valley.

Cast & Blast: A morning afield with a great dog would be enough, but combine fly-fishing with wing shooting in one day to ensure that you’re challenged all day long. As the cool morning gives way to bright sun and blue skies and the dogs have worked off their morning excitement, it’s time for a lunch break. When you go back out, a change of gear and scenery as you head out for an afternoon of sight casting to hungry trout. The air and water temps have cooled and they know that winter is coming. Hatches excite the surface and the trout are stocking up for a long dry spell. The colors are vibrant and fish are energized by the oncoming season change. Grab a jacket for the end of day chill. You might need it before you head back for happy hour and dinner. Sleep and repeat. A few days of this are heaven. Season runs September 1 through October–short, but very sweet.
