Wing Shooting

The birds sure seem to like it here in High Lonesome territory.

The weather is mild, even in winter, and the terrain is as varied as the cover: we have grain fields and native grass pastures, sagebrush flats, mountain slopes and dense creek bottoms. Hungarian partridges, pheasants and chukars will give you a run for your money.

No two shoots are ever the same.

Every wing shooting adventure is a custom-tailored, guided outing at The High Lonesome Ranch. Our pros take into account your shooting skills and your particular areas of interest to plan a shoot your group won't soon forget.  Our wingshooters particularly enjoy the variety of gamebirds.  From the cackling pheasant, to the wary Chuckar partridge, or the coveys of Hungarian partridge, there is more than enough action to make your heart beat just a little faster.  The sagebrush and wheatfield covers provide ample hiding spots for the birds, so bring your reflexes.

Pro shop attractions.

Our pro shop is well stocked with sporting gear, including Browning Citori shotguns in both 12- and 20-gauge, available for rental. You can conveniently purchase all Colorado hunting and fishing licenses here, too. As a reminder, for state licenses, you'll need a hunter's safety card first.

Practice makes perfect — sense.

Wingshooters love warming up at our five-stand sporting clays course. The course is arranged within the context of the natural setting, and the target presentation varies from hunting shots to more technical flights.   Warm up, shoot for fun, or get some pointers, the choice is yours.

It goes without saying that one of the best parts of wingshooting is the dog work.  We have a kennel of nine pointing labs from pedigreed bloodlines.  Our trainers condition them throughout the year, so when it’s time to hunt they’re ready. Aside from the kennel for our resident dogs, we have kennels at our guesthouses that can also accommodate guest's sporting dogs. For the health and safety of all our animals, we require proof of current vaccinations, including bordatella.
