More Activities

Wait, there's more.

We have a variety of activities to offer in addition to hunting, fishing and horseback riding. Let us custom-design your wild-west getaway to the High Lonesome Ranch. From guided wildlife-viewing tours to rugged mountain biking to therapeutic massages, we offer an assortment of activities to customize your experience. Our location is perfect for a variety of day trip excursions such as winery tours, whitewater rafting, and golfing. You decide, let us take care of the rest.

Sporting Clays

Sporting clays is a wing-shooters golf. Originally designed as a warm up for our bird hunters, the course is a popular activity among our corporate clients. Our tastefully designed course is built into the natural terrain, and offers clay pigeon flights that resemble our Western birds. Our guides are also excellent instructors, and safety is our priority. We present a variety of targets, some of which are confidence builders and are easy to hit, while others, well, they may require a few extra shells.

Horseback Riding

We have miles and miles of trails, perfectly suited for horseback riders of all ages and experiences. We offer guided half or full day trail rides. Equestrian lovers can pair up with one of our biddable Western-Quarter horses for an unforgettable ride. Our wranglers will help redefine the meaning of wide-open spaces while touring you through our vast ranch lands.

Hiking

If ‘these boots were made for walking’ then High Lonesome Ranch is just the place to do it. You can hike through the lowlands along Kimball Creek, up the hillsides among the mule deer and elk, or along trails that are still used for cattle drives. Let one of our guides lead the way while bringing the folklore of the land to life.

Mountain Biking

Maybe you’d prefer to cover up the hoof and boot prints with tire tracks. It’s no secret that Colorado’s high elevation is the place to train, but High Lonesome Ranch is the place for extreme riding. We offer a fleet of mountain bikes if you’re interested in a quick spin, and if you’re serious about riding, please join one of our guides for a challenging day on the trails.

Guided Wildlife Viewing Tours

Guests who embark on our Wildlife Tour are amazed at what they see through binoculars and up close. In the colorful sculptured badlands of the little Book Cliffs you’re bound to see now-protected wild herds of horses. The bays, blacks, sorrels, and a variety of Pintos including the black and white Piebalds and the Brown and White Skewbalds, are descendants of horses owned by the areas earliest settlers and Native Americans. And thats not all. You may see bobcats, coyotes, bighorn sheep, badgers, beavers, hawks, owls, peregrine falcons, mountain blue birds and bald and golden eagles. And the views along the waybreathtaking.

Helicopter Tour

Prepare for lift-off. The best way to truly appreciate the vastness of our 300-square miles is from the air. If you’re interested in seeing some of the views featured on our website and brochure for yourself, why not charter a helicopter?

Cooking Classes

As you will learn first hand, great food is a baseline at the ranch. You won’t go hungry while you’re here, and our cooking classes teach you how to recreate our unforgettable meals when you return home. Our specialty is innovative contemporary ranch cuisine – a fusion of ingredients that blends the cooking styles, influence and techniques of the region’s earliest settlers.  We also mix in a dash of ethnic influence from Central and South America, Asia and Mexico to spice things up on occasion.

In our open-kitchen classroom you’ll experience both hands-on and demonstrative instruction. Since we make everything from scratch at The High Lonesome Ranch, you will learn important foundational techniques to take back home.  You might even secure a high-level recipe or two in the process.

Theraputic Massage

After a day-afield, nothing feels better than a relaxing massage. We arrange individual appointments around your schedule from a number of certified therapists. Schedule a time after your days activities and before dinner. You’ll sleep peacefully, and wake-up refreshed to take on the new day.

Whitewater Rafting

Families love our whitewater rafting day excursions. These guided trips are exhilarating and are led by certified river guides. Spring and early summer are the best times to go.

Winery Tour

The Loire in France, the Mosel and Rhine in Germany, Napa Valley in California, and Colorado Wine Country in Grand Junction??? Sure enough, there are over 60 wineries in Colorado and over a dozen of them are within a day’s tour along the Colorado River and the mesas. Between the sunshine, balance of warm days and cool nights, combined with low humidity, Colorados environmental conditions provide the key ingredients for an award-winning wine. Well be your designated driver for the day and bring along a picnic, too.

Golf

Nearby Grand Junction has several scenic golf holes which range from par-3, 9-hole executive courses to par 72, 18-hole challenging courses. The surrounding scenic landscape is sure to please, regardless of how the game is going.

Hot Springs

Out of the spring sprung a town. Nearby Glenwood Springs has been known for over centuries for the sacred healing power of its naturally hot mineral water. Once visited by the Ute Indians, the springs were officially discovered in 1860 by a group of geographic explorers. Today this “Spa of the Rockies” includes a 405–feet long pool kept at a comfortable 90 degrees Fahrenheit year-round with over 15 different minerals present in the water. A smaller therapy pool is 100 feet long and kept at about 104 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition to the natural therapy offered by the pools, Glenwood Springs also has full-service spa. Let our High Lonesome Ranch Concierge coordinate your day excursion. We’ll transport you to and from and even have you back in time for dinner.
